An Application
MK 1:25 begins with a fascinating phrase. Jesus was not here to gain glory nor recognition (ISA 53:2, PHP 2:6) but to point people to God the Father (LK 22:42). So demons who knew better were not allowed to share their knowledge (LK 4:35, 41). He also commanded people not to tell: LK 5:14, 8:56, 9:21, 20:8, 22:67, MT 12:16, 16:20, 17:9, MK 1:44, 3:12, 8:30, 9:9. Later, the command would flip, and we are now expected to share the good news loud and proud until He returns (MT 28:18-20).
Connect the Dots
MK 1:30 is the only reference to any of the disciples being married. In MT 17:24-27 we'll read about Jesus miraculously paying for His own and Peter's (specifically) temple tax, which was only due for those at least 20 years (EX 30:14). Surely if the other disciples were old enough, He'd have paid their tax, too. Therefore, all the disciples besides Peter were most likely single teenagers.
